MAA Welcome
Dear Players/Parents,

We would like to welcome everyone to the Bluewater Hawks Midget AA program for the 2016-17 season. Here is some very important information about the tryout procedure and the upcoming season.  If you have any questions, please contact Kayle Moore at [email protected].

We ask that all players register online and email Kayle Moore.  Please include details such as birthdate, team played for last season, position and LH or RH shot. Feel free to add any additional information that will help us in our evaluations.

TRYOUTS

After each tryout session, please refer to the Bluewater Hawks Midget AA website for further information and instructions. We will try to have it updated by noon of the following day.   The tryouts will consist of intra-squad games, evaluation drills and exhibition games.  The final roster for the Bluewater Hawks Midget AA team will be posted shortly after the last tryout date.  All players from other organizations must have their Permission to Skate forms, in order to be eligible to participate in the Bluewater tryouts.

2016-17 SEASON

We know the season is months away, but we thought that it would be important for all families to know what our program will entail and what our expectations will be.

ATTENDANCE

We understand that the girls on the Midget AA team, will have many athletic opportunities available to them outside of the Bluewater organization, including high school sports and club activities. We encourage the girls to be very well-rounded athletes. Participation in other sporting activities is allowed, provided that players attend all BWMAA practices, games, tournaments and off-ice sessions. *That being said, we want all the competitive soccer/fastball players to honour their spring/summer sport commitments and finish their seasons through the Challenge Cup tournament, etc.

TOURNAMENTS

We will strive to participate in Showcase Events that will ensure the highest level of competition and exposure to OWHA, Hockey Canada, CIS and NCAA Division I and Division III coaches and scouts.

PRACTICES

We will have a minimum of 3 hours of practice time per week.

START DATE

We will begin the program in mid to late August, with both on and off-ice workouts. We will also be organizing summer strength and conditioning workouts that will be available to the team.

MARCH BREAK

There may be playoff and/or play down games scheduled during the March break, so we expect everyone to be available during that time.

SPORT PSYCHOLOGY

We plan on having well known Sports Psychologist, Dr. Natascha Wesch, spend time with the team over the course of the year. She will discuss a variety subjects with the girls and work with them on mental training skills that are very important to all elite athletes. She will address goal-setting, imagery, confidence- building, performance anxiety and other topics that lead to peak performance.

OFF-ICE TRAINING

We will be organizing weekly off-ice training sessions for the team. These sessions will occur on the same night as a practice. More details will be forthcoming at the parent meeting.

SOCIAL MEDIA

We will have a very strict policy on the use of social media for our team. The expectation will be that no negative/derogatory postings will ever come from any of our players on personal or hockey related subjects.

PED’s

We will not allow phones to be used in the dressing room or during any “team” activities. The focus at these times will be on the individuals present. Our hope is that this approach will help the players get to know each other better, build stronger bonds and create a cohesive, unified TEAM.

Thanks,

Kayle Moore ([email protected])
